Andrew joined Loughborough University in September 2021 as University Teacher in Applied Performance Analysis, and became a Lecturer in the School in 2024. Joining to teach various modules on this new and innovative MSc programme, Andrew blends engaging and current research content with his considerable practical expertise to provide a holistic overview of the performance analysis discipline. Andrew is module leader for Coaching Process and Applied Performance Analysis Workflows, whilst also leading the research project module for the programme. In this role, he also contributes to the teaching, assessment and supervision of performance analysis content on undergraduate SSEHS programmes.
Prior to joining Loughborough, Andrew was programme leader and senior lecturer at the University of Derby for their BSc Hons in Performance Analysis & Coaching Science, where he spent six years developing and delivering the course. Andrew has also worked extensively in practical performance analysis including roles with England Netball, Badminton England, Team GB, Paralympics GB, Badminton World Federation and many others. He has led the performance analysis for Loughborough Lightning Netball since 2015, reaching the finals in 2017 and 2018, before winning the title in 2021.
Andrew has a keen interest in applied empirical performance analysis research, seeking to provide insight and understanding into the evolving professional sphere. In particular, Andrew is interested in the role of specialist technologies to aid the performance analyst, alongside the implementation and effective use of performance analysis in practice.
Andrew is the Head of Performance Analysis for 2021 Superleague Champions, Loughborough Lightning Netball. Working closely with coaches, players and other members of the sport science staff, this role is responsible for the innovative, creative and reliable delivery of performance analysis throughout the Lightning pathway. Andrew has implemented sector leading performance analysis workflows throughout the pathway, significantly aided by a talented and diverse student analyst team who Andrew recruits, trains and mentors. In addition, Andrew also completes occasional consultancy work for other elite sport organisations.
Andrew is currently writing a new performance analysis academic book, entitled Professional Practice in Sport Performance Analysis. This text, due for completion in 2022, features insight into the ever evolving and innovative working practices of elite performance analysis. Drawing upon key applied insight and real-world case studies, the text will serve as a valuable addition for aspiring and current practitioners alike.
When able, Andrew also undertakes applied empirical research in sport, with a number of applied publications thus far. In particular, his 2020 paper co-authored alongside respected and experienced analysts in the field, investigated the use of telestration tools in elite football.
