David John completed his BSc in Sport and Exercise Science and MPhil investigating the role of genetic variants on athletic ability at the University of Stirling. He then moved to Loughborough University for his PhD, which he completed in 2019, investigating the influence of exercise and nutritional interventions on DNA methylation.

Following his PhD, he remained at Loughborough University as a University Teacher in Genetics and Biochemistry where he contributed to the development and delivery of laboratory-based modules for bioscience students. In 2022 he was appointed to his current role as a University Teacher in Genetics and Biochemistry. In his current role, David John contributes to teaching on various modules across the human biology and biological science degrees.
