Ian joined the School of Sport, Exercise & Health Sciences at Loughborough University from Kingston University in 2009. Prior to this he completed his PhD at the University of Birmingham exploring motivation in educational settings.
Ian is an Associate Fellow and Chartered Psychologist of the British Psychological Society, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Ian's research concerns human motivation. He has published widely on fundamental processes that drive behaviour and lead to long-term health. Currently, his primary focus is on investigating the motivational determinants of healthy decision making and consequences of poor quality motivation.
Ian sits on the Editorial board of several psychology journals. He has presented his work in over fifteen countries and has examined and supervised numerous PhD theses.
