Tell us a little bit about yourself (hobbies, interests and background):

My hobbies and interests are all largely sport-related, having played a range of sports whilst younger, and am a keen follower of rugby, tennis, American football and basketball.

How did you first get involved in volunteering within sport at Loughborough?

I first started as a placement student between the second and third years of my undergraduate degree, then remained working for Loughborough Sport as a volunteer during my final year and masters.

During your years at Loughborough what have you got involved in through volunteering within sport?

I have been involved as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for Loughborough Lightning Rugby, Loughborough Students RFC and Loughborough Cycling Academy. Through my role with Loughborough Lightning, I have also been involved as a Volunteer Strength and Conditioning Coach for England Rugby for the last 18 months.

What has your experience volunteering been like whilst at Loughborough?

Both productive and constructive – it has both provided me with the initial skills and highlighted the areas that I need to work on to progress in a career in Strength and Conditioning.

How has being involved with Loughborough Sport helped you develop and progress (personally and professionally)?

It has helped me to develop both the technical and soft skills required for a career in Strength and Conditioning.

What’s the best advice you could give to a Loughborough student looking to get involved in volunteering & gain the most out of their university experiences?

Have a clear end goal in mind both of where you want to end up in your career and what you want to achieve from volunteering – this will help you to target the best volunteering opportunities for what you need.

Finally, what do you enjoy most about volunteering?

Being part of a team alongside other coaches and support staff to work alongside athletes and help them achieve their goals.
