Rowing at Loughborough offers a friendly, competitive and social environment and caters for novice, intermediate and elite level rowers. Whether you are looking to challenge yourself with something new, or striving to earn a GB vest, we have what it takes to help you.
Athletic Union Club
Our club is known across the country for our success at BUCS across all events, with more and more rowers medalling each year at the championships. We currently have 80 members with six teams divided into Novice Men and Women, Intermediate Men, Senior Men and Women and TiD Women. For University events, we compete for Loughborough Students' Rowing Club and for domestic races we race for Nottingham Rowing Club on the River Trent.
We enter BUCS indoor, winter and summer regattas plus any other races our coaches deem fit. We mostly train at Nottingham Rowing Club as well as Powerbase and Holywell Fitness Centre. We train from three to six times per week on the water plus additional gym training, but this varies depending on which squad you are part of. Each squad has their own coach and our coaches have experience from coaching at top Universities across the country, as well as international coaching and rowing experience.
Hall Sport (IMS)
We also encourage you to compete in rowing for your hall in IMS, as there are plenty of opportunities to represent your hall throughout the year. You compete against other halls, and it’s a great way to get involved in hall life and meet new people in a more social and less competitive environment.
Coaching and volunteering
Within most sports there are a range of sports volunteering roles and opportunities for you to get involved and gain experience in. This ranges from coaching and officiating to events, marketing and media and sport science support.
