Handball at Loughborough caters for everyone from beginner to professional and have different squads to suit everyone’s abilities.
Athletic Union Club
Loughborough University Students' Handball Club has four teams, two women’s teams and two men’s teams. We compete in the Midland’s Regional League, the British University Handball Championships, the English Handball National Cup, and the North Championships, among many others.
Our teams are split between Performance and Development. For our Performance team, you must be able to play at high level with necessary experience to compete at high national and international level. However, if you have little playing experience but the necessary attributes to be a part of the Performance team, you will be considered anyway to play for this team.
For our Development team, if you are a student who is willing to learn to basic skills needed to become a player in the performance team, then this is the team for you. This team is a great way to learn how to play the game, the tactics, the technique and the teamwork. Previous playing experience is desired but not necessary.
Our teams train three times per week, with two handball sessions and one fitness session. We train in Sir David Wallace Sports Hall. Our club also has a great social side with many trips and events organised throughout the academic year.
Hall Sport (IMS)
We encourage you to compete in Handball for your halls of residence in IMS competitions held throughout the year. You compete in teams against other halls, and these competitions are always great fun.
Handball is also available through the My Lifestyle initiative, where you can give the sport a go and have loads of fun at the same time.
Coaching and volunteering
Within most sports there are a range of sports volunteering roles and opportunities for you to get involved and gain experience in. This ranges from coaching and officiating to events, marketing and media and sport science support.
