Cycling

Cycling is a sport for everyone, whether you like to beat your opponents in a competitive race, enjoy riding down steep cliffs during the weekend or just like going out for a relaxing bike ride, cycling at Loughborough caters for all.

Loughborough Cycling Academy

Loughborough Cycling Academy is the performance cycling programme of Loughborough University. Our performance cyclists benefit from world-class coaching and performance support to support them in combining the demands of elite cycling with completing a prestigious degree.

Athletic Union Club

Our club is made up of cyclists of all abilities, from national riders to everyday casual riders, so you should be able to find someone to ride with and talk to during whatever session you choose to attend. We cover Road, Cyclo-cross, Time-trial, Track, XC and Downhill and we have both male and female riders.

We have three training opportunities per week for each discipline, but if you want to train more there is always someone up for a ride. Club sessions are led by an experienced member and route, distance and times are usually posted on our Facebook page.

Our club has a long history of successful racing with many members successfully competing in a range of categories. We have a performance squad which benefits from additional training supported by the University but it's not all about racing and the weekly rides, we also cater to members who wish to ride at their own pace.

Road cycling is the biggest section of the club with member abilities ranging from professional to beginner. The club ride is suitable for cyclists who are used to road racing around 60 miles averaging around 20mph. The middle ride caters to those who are used to riding in a group but not quite as fast as the club ride. Finally, there is the recreational ride for those who have not ridden in a group before and are just getting into cycling or who just want a relaxing ride.

You are expected to wear a helmet at all times during the sessions, and you will need to provide your own helmet and a bike. The club offers a great social scene and you can enjoy different socials throughout the year.

We organise regular road, XC and DH trips to Wales or the Peak District and frequently attend the velodrome in Derby. Plus, there's a winter training trip to Majorca for the road racers.
