We are one of the biggest clubs in the Athletic Union and offer something for everyone. Whether you are an elite athlete or a complete beginner, our coaches will take you and your badminton skills to the next level.

Elite players perform at an international level and train around eight times per week. Coached by a team of full-time coaches and performance managers as well as 20+ part-time coaches, they receive support through sport science, strength and conditioning, sports medicine, as well as lifestyle support and sports scholarships.

Athletic Union Club

The club trains in the Badminton Centre and depending on which level you are on, for around seven hours per week. We have four men’s and three women’s BUCS teams as well as nine Leicester League teams and our 160+ members are spread out over different levels, including elite, squad, academy and development.

Squad players are predominantly national or high county standard players. They make up the rest of the BUCS teams and have teams in the top divisions of the local Leicestershire League. The academy is for our high club standard players, who also play in the local Leicestershire league, whereas our development squad is made up of people of all standards, from those who play lower level county to those who are just here for some fun.

Our players compete in the National Badminton League, BUCS, and the Leicestershire League. The different sections of the club are coached by numerous experienced coaches.
