Morgan Phillips

Academy Coach

Morgan has 22 years of experience in elite tennis as a player and coach at all professional levels, including WTA, ATP and ITF working with various nationalities. As a player, Morgan reached a career-high ranking of 406 ATP and doubles 399. His coaching career started at an academy in Valencia, Spain where Morgan had previously been based for many years as a player. As an academy coach, he was given the lead role of Evgeny Donskoy and toured on the ATP tour with him for two years, making the third round of the US Open and Australian Open in his breakthrough year. A touring role with Daniel Gimeno Traver followed before Morgan decided to return to the UK to work with GB Davis Cup winner James Ward. Morgan worked on the WTA tour with Heather Watson during which she made the final of the mixed doubles at Wimbledon 2017 along with making the third round in singles. More recent years have been dedicated to British juniors, transitioning them from top-end juniors into senior tennis; these included Anton Matusevich, Jack Pinnington-Jones and Felix Gill. Morgan was responsible for helping them all reach PSP and guiding them through the beginning phase of their professional journey. 

Morgan’s role at the Academy is to oversee the development of the LUNTA male players throughout their Academy journey. Morgan and Mark lead the coaching team to deliver world-class coaching support to our players both at base in Loughborough and at tournaments. Morgan will lead the delivery of players Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and train and travel alongside the boys where possible. Alongside Mark, Morgan leads the Coaching Philosophy and Tennis Programme at the Academy and is an integral part of the Academy’s leadership team. Amongst other success since joining the Academy in September 2022, Morgan led Henry Searle during his Junior Wimbledon Boys Singles title win in 2023.
