Tell us a little about yourself (E.g. hobbies, interests and background)

I am a postgraduate student at Loughborough and am currently studying a 2 year masters in Sport and Exercise Psychology. Sport has always been in my family and I was introduced to many at a young age such as Gymnastics, Athletics, Hockey, Tennis, and Dance. Although I enjoyed all of them, dance was something that I just couldn't get enough of so here I am, still a dancer for 20 years, and hopefully a few more! I also enjoy painting and drawing and find it a nice way to relax after long days!

How did you first get involved in volunteering within sport at Loughborough?

I joined the AU dance club in my first year and competed at the national dance competition held in Loughborough. I absolutely loved it and this interested me in coaching Ballet in my second year. By my third year, competing for three years at nationals and learning how the competition was ran, I started to develop an interest in events. I have always been highly organised and I wanted to use this skill to the max which led me to being the competition coordinator for 2026.

During your years at Loughborough what have you got involved in through volunteering within sport?

I have coached for AU Dance for three years- two years was coaching the intermediate ballet team and this year I am coaching the advanced ballet team which I am looking forward to. I also was the competition coordinator for AU Dance in my Master's year which entailed organising the largest university dance competition in the UK with a £65,000 budget, over 2000 dancers, 30 universities, 300 spectators, and 5 industry professionals.

What has your experience volunteering been like whilst at Loughborough?

It has been amazing. I have gained so many skills and insights into coaching and event management. The support I received from the CVA with planning the dance event was phenomenal. I couldn't have done it without them.

How has being involved with Loughborough Sport helped you develop and progress (personally and professionally)?

I have developed so many life skills from my time in volunteering. Such as personal skills such as, confidence, public speaking, organisation, time management and communication as well as professionally such as learning how to manage large budgets for events, how to communicate with large stake holders, organising and timetabling roles and leading people and keeping morale high when times are stressful. I believe this skills will help me largely for my future and in my career.

What’s the best advice you could give to a Loughborough student looking to get involved in volunteering & gain the most out of their university experiences?

Do it! You gain so many skills and confidence from it that will benefit you and your future. Volunteering at Loughborough really is a once in a life time experience and the support you get from the CVA is always amazing.

Finally, what do you enjoy most about volunteering?

The people and experience. I have had the opportunity to work and meet so many people within Loughborough Sport that have taught me so many things and how to work in the professional world. It also made me realise my passion for event management!
