Roles undertaken within Loughborough Sport
LUNTA MMC, Social Sport Tennis Coordinator, multiple events volunteer.
Tell us a little about yourself (E.g. hobbies, interests and background)?
I’m Rahul, a former professional tennis player now completing my master’s in Sport Management at Loughborough.
With nearly two decades of experience in the sport, I’ve transitioned into media, events, and volunteer roles at major tournaments, including Silverstone F1 and Queen’s Club. Outside of sport, I DJ, explore wellness practices like meditation and breathwork, and thrive in roles that blend creativity, sport, and community impact. I'm always excited by new challenges and opportunities for connection.
How did you first get involved in volunteering within sport at Loughborough?
I first got involved in volunteering through the recreational sport programme as a Tennis Activator soon after arriving at Loughborough. That initial role helped me meet new people and immerse myself in the campus sport community.
From there, one opportunity led to another, and I made it a point to volunteer at every single event I could on campus. It has been an enriching journey and a significant part of my university experience.
During your years at Loughborough what have you got involved in through volunteering within sport?
During my time at Loughborough, I’ve volunteered across various areas in sport. I began as a Rec Sport Tennis Activator and became the Social Tennis League Coordinator.
I also joined the LUNTA Media & Marketing team, where I managed content during international events. Beyond tennis, I’ve supported major campus events, such as BUCS Big Wednesday, and represented Loughborough at the F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone and the Queen’s Club Championships.
What has your experience volunteering been like whilst at Loughborough?
Volunteering at Loughborough has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey here. It gave me a strong sense of purpose, community, and belonging from the start.
I’ve loved the variety of roles from running tennis leagues to working behind the scenes at major events. Every opportunity helped me grow personally and professionally, and it’s been incredibly fulfilling to give back to a university that gives so much to its students.
How has being involved with Loughborough Sport helped you develop and progress (personally and professionally)?
Being involved with Loughborough Sport has helped me grow immensely. Personally, it boosted my confidence, leadership, and communication skills through roles like Social Tennis Coordinator. Professionally, it gave me real-world event experience, networking opportunities, and clarity on my career path in sports management. It has shaped me into a more driven, adaptable, and purpose-driven individual, ready for the sports industry.
What’s the best advice you could give to a Loughborough student looking to get involved in volunteering & gain the most out of their university experiences?
Say yes early. Even minor roles open big doors. Volunteering is an excellent way to meet new people, develop skills, and boost your confidence. Loughborough offers so much, but it’s what you put in that shapes what you get out. Dive in and make it count!
Finally, what do you enjoy most about volunteering?
What I enjoy most is the sense of purpose and connection and being part of something bigger than myself. Whether it’s creating a great experience for others or bonding with a team, volunteering constantly gives back in energy, growth, and gratitude.
