Loughborough’s Barnes earns British Cycling World Championship call-up

Loughborough cyclist Toby Barnes has been selected by British Cycling for the forthcoming World Championships in Belgium.

Barnes will form part of a 12-rider squad and will compete in the under-23 men’s race alongside his brother Dan Barnes, European silver medalist Thomas Mein, bronze medalist Cameron Mason, Rory McGuire, Oli Stockwell and Ben Turner.

On Toby’s selection, Dr David Nichols, Cycling Programme Manager, Loughborough University, said:

“Toby has made huge strides since joining the academy and impressively manged his full-time degree program alongside his demanding training schedule.

“His professionalism and commitment has shone through in a remarkably tough year, and this worlds selection is a very deserving and impressive achievement for him as a student-athlete, and great reflection on the hard work he has put in. We wish him the very best of luck for the upcoming World Championships.”

The UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships will take place in Ostend, Belgium, from 30th – 31st January 2021.
