Huge medal haul for Loughborough Swimming as records tumble in Sheffield

Loughborough swimmers produced a sensational performance at the BUCS Short Course Championships in Sheffield this weekend with the team once again crowned Men’s, Women’s, and overall Champions.

In what proved to be an incredible meet for Loughborough, the team broke 11 BUCS records on the way to claiming a mammoth 46 medals in the pool.

Loughborough’s Louise Hansson and Andreas Vazaios were also awarded ‘Top Female’ and ‘Top Male’ for their performances, after securing a total of 18 gold medals between them.

Buoyed by the inclusion of Olympic swimmers Hansson, Vazaios, Alice Dearing, Daniel Wiffen, and Felix Auboeck, Loughborough dominated proceedings from the start.

In one of the races of the weekend, Austria’s Auboeck swam 7:44.25 taking five seconds off a 13-year record in the Men’s 800m freestyle. In the same race, Daniel Wiffen’s third-place finish claimed an Irish senior record in a time of 7:47.20.

Loughborough swimmers completed BUCS Records in the following competitions:

Men’s: 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, 800m Freestyle, 1500m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke, 50m Fly, 100m Fly.

Women’s: 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke, 100m Fly.
