Alumnus called up as Head Rugby Coach for Sweden

Alumnus Alex Laybourne has been named the new Men’s Head Coach for Sweden’s 15s team.

Alumnus Alex Laybourne has been named the new Men’s Head Coach for Sweden’s 15s team.

Alex is currently the Director of Rugby for ‘The Lambs’, an invitational U18s representative side, alongside his job as a teacher where he is Head of Rugby and Deputy Head of Sixth Form at a school in Cambridgeshire.

The alumnus has previously coached Scotland Women U20s and he has also worked with Loughborough Students’ Rugby.

During his time as a student, Alex was part of the BOOST Coach Development Programme and took on the role of Women’s Freshers Coach before becoming Head Coach of the Women’s club in his final year.

Following his graduation, Alex continued to coach at Loughborough before moving to the Men’s club to coach the second team. He was also appointed to run the BOOST Project alongside the Rugby Development Officer at Loughborough, whilst he studied for a masters.

Alex continues to be a passionate supporter of Loughborough Students’ Rugby and is a Vice-President of the club.

On his latest appointment, Alex said:

“It is a privilege to be appointed as the Men's Head Coach for Sweden. Opportunities like this don't come along very often and I am looking forward to working with the players and management to create a successful environment where we can thrive as a group. I believe the future is bright for Swedish Rugby and I am excited about being part of the journey.”

Alex is a member of the Loughborough Alumni Advisory Board and graduated with a BSc in Psychology in 2009 and an MSc in Sports Coaching in 2011.
