Kirstie Gordon playing cricket

Lightning’s Kirstie Gordon made another dream debut taking her first wicket of her Ashes Test career. Gordon who emerged into the England squad after a successful maiden KSL season topped both the KSL and County bowling tables before being rewarded with her first senior call up.

Gordon started off her T20 England campaign in fantastic form winning player of the match on debut and taking three wickets. Playing a role in the build up to England’s second place finish injury struck the rising star leaving Gordon out for the past six months.

However, in last week’s warm-up matches it looked as if she hadn’t been away! Gordon tore through the Australian batting order taking eight wickets across the fixture. This earnt her place to perform in the purest format of the game.

Starting in the Ashes Test, Gordon looks economical with the ball having bowled 19.4 overs for 53 runs taking one wicket for a healthy econ of 2.69 an over on day one. The all-important wicket bowled opener Alyssa Healy around the leg for 58. A crucial wicket and another big name to add to her collection.

The days play closed with two former Lightning overseas players Ellyse Perry (84*) and Rachael Haynes (54*) in the middle. Australia will resume play on 265-3 Friday morning at Taunton.
