After their first defeat in the Tyrrells Premier 15s 2018/19 season last week, Lightning will look to return to winning ways as they take on Wasps Ladies at home. The game, which forms part of a double header with Loughborough Students RFC who take on Chinnor RFC in National One, will be held on the 1st December and kick off at 12pm on the 1st XV pitch on Epinal Way.

Having secured a solid win against Gloucester-Hartpury last week, Wasps will be determined to turn the tables on Lightning who took the win 40-20 in their last encounter. Lightning, who now sit second in the table after last week’s result, will look to be clinical in attack and resolute in defence, and show the visiting side why they held the top spot for the first half of the season.

With the international break over, Lightning team will be boosted by the return of their England players who helped the Red Roses complete a 3-0 series win in the Quilter Internationals. Also returning from international duty is Daleaka Menin, the prop playing a key role in Canada’s wins against Wales and Scotland.

Of his selection, Head Coach Rhys Edwards commented:

“Looking ahead to the weekend, we know Wasps are a very difficult team to play against. They have some real pace out wide and some very clinical heavy forwards, so it’s important that we apply the defensive pressure that we had against Saracens last week to stop them gaining any momentum in the game.

“It’s great to be welcoming our international players back into the team, but also to reward those that put in great performances against Saracens. Jodie Mallard and Ellen Ramsbottom both had great games last week and really made selection hard. We are keen to get our momentum back, however we need to stop Wasps first and then apply ourselves to get the points on the board.”

Loughborough Lightning will kick off the double header at 12pm and will be live streamed on the England Rugby Facebook and YouTube channel. Loughborough Students RFC will follow on at 3pm against Chinnor RFC. The Lightning game is free of charge, so head down to campus and show the ladies your support.
