Pitches

Across campus, we have both artificial and grass pitches, suitable for rugby, football, hockey, lacrosse and American football.

We have 6 artificial pitches across campus providing versatile spaces for a wide range of sports and events. Available for hire by students, staff and the local community, they are suitable for everything from casual games to regular training sessions.

We also have a number of grass pitches located at the west end of campus, regularly used by clubs and organisations to host tournaments or training camps throughout the season.  Our expert grounds team maintains each pitch to the highest standard, ensuring they are ready for training and competition all year round.  

Equipment and spaces

First XV Rugby Rubber Crumb pitch

This World Rugby-standard artificial pitch, from SIS Pitches, has a spectator capacity of 2,500. Fully floodlit and enclosed with perimeter spectator fencing, it is home to our Performance Rugby Programme and Loughborough Lightning Rugby.

Water-based Hockey Pitch

Our elite water-based pitch is an international standard facility. Fully floodlit, it includes dedicated spectator areas, a scoreboard and is serviced by the adjacent Hockey Pavilion.

Sand-based pitch

The EHB sand-based pitch is a floodlit artificial pitch, suitable for hockey, lacrosse and small sided football.

Holywell Rubber Crumb

The Holywell Rubber crumb is an artificial surface suitable for football and American football. It's equipped with permanent goalposts for American football alongside 11-a-side and small-sided football goals.

Constructed in 2020 by SIS Pitches, this high-performance artificial pitch is certified to FIFA Quality standards.

PEC

The PEC is a floodlit rubber crumb pitch, primarily used for football and regularly supporting rugby training.

Holywell Sports Complex

The majority of our grass pitches are located within the Holywell Sports Complex. The site includes 5 football pitches, which can be adapted for different sports, including rugby.
