Lightning's Quest for a T20 Win Continues

A good performance from Sophie Munro in Lightning's T20 match against Central Sparks.

Central Sparks beat Lightning by 6 wickets, with 6 balls remaining.

Yet to win a T20 game this season, the Lightning team took on Central Sparks at Grace Road, Leicester. 

 Winning the coin Toss, Lightning opted to bat first. The team’s strongest partnership of the day was the last, Shachi Pai and Sophie Munro. The pair scored a healthy 41 runs in 33 runs between them. With Munro unbeaten with 20 runs from 16, whilst Pai got to 18 from 21 before getting out. Other runs from the team include Abbey Freeborn (11), Sonia Odedra (8), Kathryn Bryce (7), Sarah Bryce (6), Lucy Higham (3), Kirstie Gordon (2) and Teresa Graves (1). The team therefore leaving Central Sparks with an aim of 82 during their own batting innings.

Whilst Lighting were batting, Sparks Georgia Davis and Eve Jones shon as Davis dismissed Abbey Freeborn, Teresa Graves, Sonia Odedra and Lucy Higham through wickets, whilst Jones dismissed 3 Lightning players; Kathryn Bryce, Michaela Kirk and Kirstie Gordon.

With a slow start from Sparks during their own batting innings, the team saw themselves behind Lightning by 6 at 9 /2 after Sophie Munro’s double wicket maiden, dismissing Marie Kelly  (1) and Milly Home (0). However, the Sparks Women found their feet as Davis gained 31 runs before being dismissed by stumped by Sarah Bryce by Higham.Thea Brookes also had a good run with 21 runs before Captain Kathyrn Bryce dismissed the player, whilst Eve Jones collected 27 runs without dismissal to win the game. Emily Arlott also contributed with 2 runs helping with Sparks’ total.

With a low scoring contest, Central Sparks (84 for 4) beat Lightning (81) winning by 6 wickets with 6 balls remaining. This gave Sparks their first T20 Win of the season.

There will be a short break for The Hundred before Lightning will be back to play South East Stars on 28th August at Guilford CC.
