Investing in your Campus this summer
Here at Loughborough Sport, we are endeavouring to keep all of our Sport Facilities world-class, as we strive to ensure we are keeping up with the latest technological advances in sport. Over the Summer, some of our facilities will be closed, or experience changes in availability as we complete work. All of the details of this can be found on this webpage, as we keep you up to date on the latest developments.
Which facilities will be affected?
Sir David Wallace Sports Hall
Upgrading your Loughborough experience
The Sir David Wallace (SDW) sports complex is being improved as part of a summer programme of works on campus. SDW is at the heart of campus life, hosting major events like Graduation Ceremonies and Loughborough Lightning netball matches. This project will ensure it remains an inspiring venue, celebrating Loughborough and sport, for years to come.
From 24 July until 27 September, there will be some cancellation of studio classes and changes to how the building, including the sports hall, is accessed.
What's changing?
- Works to create an iconic, welcoming entrance to the venue
- Interactive, multi-purpose displays telling the history of sport at Loughborough and celebrating our achievements
- Improved accessibility, making sure all users have access to an engaging, multi-functional entrance space
How will this affect me?
During the refurbishment, access to the building will be temporarily redirected to behind the sports hall on the Epinal Way side. We’ll ensure clear signage is in place, and staff will be on hand to help you find your way. We’ll keep you updated regularly on progress and when entry to the building returns to normal.
From Monday 28 July the following will be cancelled for the duration of the works:
- Mondays – Yoga 12:30 -13:30
- Tuesdays – Body Balance 8:15 - 9:00 / Pilates 12:30 - 13:30
- Wednesdays – Yoga 12:00 – 13:00; note this will be moved to Holywell
- Thursdays – Pilates 12:30 – 13:30
- Fridays – Yoga 12:30 – 13:30
In acknowledgment of this disruption additional classes have been scheduled across the studios and gym floors. Please keep an eye on the app for:
- Mondays - HIIT / Toning 9:30
- Wednesdays - Abs / Kettlebells 16:15
- Thursdays - Bootcamp 16:45 / Body Pump replacing Pilates at lunchtimes
- Saturdays - Body Bootcamp / Kettlebells at various times
- Sundays - LBT / Body Pump / Pilates at various times
Swimming Pool
Between 14 July and 19 September*, our swimming pool will shut to undergo a major upgrade focused on energy decarbonisation. For more information, head over to our Swimming Pool Closure website.
HiPAC
In partnership with UK Athletics, UK Sport, and the UK Sports Institute, over the coming weeks and months we’re making significant improvements in the HiPAC.
The project is an exciting step forward for our performance environment at Loughborough University. It includes the creation of a new, state-of-the-art biomechanical analysis lane inside the indoor track, enhancing our ability to provide performance insights to athletes.
From the 30 July to 1 November, we will have reduced capacity on the indoor straight incl. temporary closures, but we will endeavour to keep all other indoor and outdoor areas accessible.
How does this affect me?
For the duration of these works, we're reducing the indoor straight to 4 usable lanes. There will also be some disruption from install works taking place around the edges of the facility.
Then from 4 to 29 Aug, Monday to Friday from 4PM, the indoor centre will be closed and access to the outdoor track will be via the gate near the Paula Radcliffe Pavilion.
Outdoor Only Access Times:
- Monday 16:00-18:30 (closed due to Charnwood Athletic Club exclusive access until 20:30)
- Tuesday 16:00-20:30
- Wednesday 16:00-18:30 (closed due to Charnwood Athletic Club exclusive access until 20:30)
- Thursday 16:00-20:30
- Friday 16:00-20:30
