The week will take place from November 3-9 and will feature a wide range of events, including boccia and seated volleyball, as well as a series of workshops hosted by our Executive Team for all staff and students.
November marks the start of Disability History Month, and this week will be an incredible opportunity for students and staff to engage in new ways with sport and develop their understanding surrounding disability, inclusivity and how we can make the world a more accessible place.
The Para and Disability Sport Executive has organised the event to showcase the inclusive physical activity opportunities available at the University.
The team hopes to engage more disabled students and provide opportunities for them to participate and volunteer within sport. Moreover, they emphasise that you don’t need to be disabled to participate in adaptive and inclusive sports, and to expand the communities engaging with them here at the University.
The week will have over 20 events on campus, and there will be collaborations with Intra-mural Sport (IMS), the Athletic Union (AU), Recreational Sport and Social Sport, so there will be something for everyone.
On the last day of the Para and Disability Takeover Week (Sunday November 9) there will be a faceoff between the winners of the IMS Wheelchair Basketball ODE and our very own Loughborough Lightning Wheelchair Basketball team.
Yasmina Eissa (Chair of the Disability and Para Sport Exec) said, “It’s been amazing seeing Takeover Week develop throughout the years. Each year, we strive to make it bigger and better, and I am eager to share what we have in store this year. It’s a great opportunity for disabled and non-disabled students to get involved in the world of Para and Disability Sport.”
