Loughborough Lightning FC are thrilled to confirm the appointment of Katie Sorenson as the club’s new Assistant Coach, joining the team ahead of their much-anticipated return to the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division (Tier 3).

Sorenson joins from Leafield Athletic and takes over from Sarah Richardson, who has left the club to join Stoke City Women.

Sorenson brings a strong coaching pedigree from her time at Leafield Athletic, where she was instrumental in player development and tactical planning. Her appointment reflects Lightning’s ambition to re-establish itself as a competitive force at the Tier 3 level.

Lightning Head Coach Charles Baxter commented:

“Katie’s arrival is a huge boost for us as we enter an important season. She’s a talented coach with a great eye for the game, and I’m confident she’ll make a big impact on and off the pitch.”

Sorenson said:

“I’m excited to be joining Lightning at such a crucial time. The club has a clear vision, and returning to Tier 3 is a huge achievement. I look forward to working with the squad and helping us push even further.”

With pre-season preparations already underway, Katie joins the team immediately, as Lightning looks to hit the ground running when the new campaign kicks off on Sunday 17 August 2025.
