Six current and former Loughborough University hockey players have enjoyed a golden summer on the international stage, playing key roles in a series of landmark results for Wales across both the men's and women's teams.

From 22 July to 2 August 2025, the men’s team struck gold in Portugal at the EuroHockey Championship II, defeating Ireland in a dramatic penalty shootout to seal promotion to the prestigious A Division and secure a place in the 2027 World Cup Qualifiers in London.

Alumnus and goalkeeper Toby Reynolds-Cotterill was a standout performer, keeping two clean sheets during the tournament and holding firm in the decisive shootout final.

The women’s side enjoyed equal success in Poland, claiming silver and returning to the A Division for the first time in 24 years.

Their attacking firepower was driven by Loughborough alumnae Amy Cradden and Beth Bingham, who each scored three goals, while Beth Peers added another.

Earlier in the summer, the same Loughborough contingent represented Wales at the FIH Nations Cup. The women’s squad secured bronze in Nations Cup II, with goals from Peers (2), Bingham (1), and Cradden (1).

The men finished a strong fifth in Nations Cup I, recording positive results against South Africa, Japan, and Malaysia.

Across both campaigns, Cradden, Bingham, Peers, and Reynolds-Cotterill made vital contributions to their teams’ success.

Everyone at Loughborough is immensely proud of their achievements and looks forward to following their journey as they take on Europe’s elite in 2027.
