The 21-year-old’s mammoth time of 14:14.45 in the men’s 1500m freestyle saw Wiffen obliterate his own previous Irish record of 14:32.13.
The rapid time placed Wiffen in the record books as the sixth fastest 1500m swimmer in history.
Wiffen’s storming performance saw him top the podium ahead of fellow Loughborough athlete Toby Robinson (14:40.53) while his brother, Nathan Wiffen, also broke the 15-minute barrier to take bronze in 14:57.50.
Earlier in the meet, Daniel set out his intentions by setting yet another new Irish national record in the men’s 400m Individual Medley by hitting the wall in 4:11.05.
