Basketball at Loughborough is one of the leading programmes within women’s basketball in the UK. We cater for a wide range of abilities, and everyone is welcome to try out.
Many of our players play for Loughborough Riders, who compete in the WNBL as well as BUCS Premier North. Since being upgraded to EBL Division 1 during the 2011-12 seasons, our club has grown substantially and can cater for more student athletes than ever before.
The club has served as a major stepping stone for many female players, with numerous past and present students being called up join the Great Britain team.
Athletic Union Club
Our elite team currently British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) Premier competition and we have a further two teams playing in various BUCS leagues. We train once to five times per week depending on the squad at Sir David Wallace Sports Hall.
We also offer a less competitive element to our club that caters for all abilities, whether you just want to have fun and learn some new skills in a relaxed, friendly environment, or if you just want to meet some new people, recreational basketball is definitely for you.
Hall sport (IMS)
You can compete in basketball for your halls in Intramural Sport (IMS) with competitions held throughout the year. This is a great way to get involved in hall life and meet new people in a competitive environment.
Our wheelchair basketball sessions are open to anyone and all equipment is provided, so you can just turn up and have a go.
Our social sport programme offers free, competitive sport that allows participants to play sport socially. You can represent your department, society and/or as a group of friends.
Basketball is also available through the My Lifestyle initiative, where you can give the sport a go and have loads of fun at the same time.
