Basketball at Loughborough is one of the leading programmes within women’s basketball in the UK. We have a variety of teams from professional to recreational and everyone is welcome!
Our performance team, Leicester Riders, compete in the UK's top British basketball league known as the Women's British Basketball League (WBBL). Many of our players also compete in the Women's National Basketball League Division One (WNBL D1) for Loughborough Riders and in the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) for Loughborough Student's Basketball.
The club continues to serve as a major stepping stone for many female players, with numerous past and present students being called up join the GB team.
Athletic Union Club
Our elite team competes in the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) Premier competition and we have a further two teams playing in various BUCS leagues (Division 1 & 2). We train twice a week in the Sir David Wallace Sports Hall or the Netball & Badminton Centre.
We also offer a less competitive team that caters for all abilities, whether you just want to have fun and learn some new skills in a relaxed, friendly environment, or if you just want to meet some new people then the development team is perfect.
Hall sport (IMS)
Basketball is also played in Intramural Sport (IMS) between different halls with competitions held throughout the year. This is a great way to get involved in hall life and meet new people in a fun and competitive environment.
The University's social sport programme offers free, competitive basketball that allows participants to play sport socially. You can represent your department, society and/or as a group of friends.
Basketball is also available through the My Lifestyle programme, where you can give the sport a go and have loads of fun at the same time.
