Basketball at Loughborough has developed significantly over the past five years and is quickly becoming one of the leading programmes within men’s basketball in the UK. We cater for a wide range of abilities, and everyone is welcome to try out.
Our elite men’s squad have an intense practice schedule, practicing four times per week in addition to other specific-skill workouts and strength and conditioning. Our sports science team uses all the University’s world class sports facilities to help create the ultimate training centre with the best support possible. The facilities used include three basketball courts, a performance gym and a swimming pool.
Loughborough now also boasts an exciting new basketball development programme, which involves Leicester Riders, Charnwood College and Loughborough College. The University will play a key role in this comprehensive basketball programme for players aged 11 and older.
Athletic Union Club
Our elite team currently competes in EBL D2 and the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) Premier competition and we have a further four teams playing in various BUCS, national and local competitions. Many of our current athletes have had recent international appearances, could you be next?
With an extensive support structure which caters for a wide range of abilities, the programme currently features four men’s squads and a development squad, allowing you to advance your skills throughout the year.
Dependant on your team, trainings range from 1-4 times per week, ability dependant, across multi-ple facilities.

Hall Sport (IMS)
You can compete in basketball for your halls in Intramural Sport (IMS) with competitions held throughout the year.
Our wheelchair basketball sessions are open to anyone and all equipment is provided, so you can just turn up and have a go.
Our social sport programme offers free, competitive sport that allows participants to play sport socially. You can represent your department, society and/or as a group of friends.
Basketball is also available through the My Lifestyle initiative, where you can give the sport a go and have loads of fun at the same time.
