Ways you can play

Performance
The Loughborough Performance Programme offers unrivalled support for badminton players, combining elite-level coaching with the flexibility to excel in both sport and academia.
Our athletes benefit from world-class facilities, tailored training plans, and a comprehensive network of performance services to help them reach their potential on and off the court.

Athletic Union (AU)
The AU Badminton Club is one of the largest sports clubs at Loughborough, with over 115 members and a welcoming social community. We cater to all abilities, from club players to elite internationals, through a structured development pathway and tailored support.
Our members have access to up to four training sessions per week at the Badminton Centre, led by full-time staff and dedicated student volunteers. The club fields 11 teams (6 men’s and 5 women’s) competing in leagues from Premier Division North to Midlands Tier 3, as well as the local Leicestershire league. We also run internal tournaments and events, giving players plenty of chances to compete and represent Loughborough.

Hall Sport
Hall Sport, also known as IMS, is a free programme that offers a fantastic way to enjoy sports, connect with friends, and make the most of your hall experience.
Our Mixed League (A Grade) offers competitive, balanced badminton for players who want a challenge without facing AU squad opponents. Each team has six players and three mixed pairs - ensuring fair, evenly matched games for everyone involved.
Matches are played in a round-robin format, with every pair facing each other to decide the overall winners. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy quality badminton, test your skills against peers of a similar level, and compete in a friendly but focused environment.
With a clear structure and a level playing field, this league is about fair competition and great games.

Social Sport
The Social Sport Mixed Badminton League offers fun, casual competition on Saturday afternoons from 2pm to 5pm at our Badminton Centre.
With mixed teams and a relaxed atmosphere, friends, societies, or departments can easily join, with no experience needed. It's an inclusive, social, and enjoyable way to stay active, and it’s free to join, with a £10 refundable deposit returned when your team attends and follows the rules.

Recreational Sport
For those looking to participate in sport on a more casual basis, there’s lots to choose from.
