Match report: Loughborough Lightning 2–2 Liverpool Feds

Player Muna Eze on pitch

Loughborough Lightning were held to a 2–2 draw by Liverpool Feds in an open and competitive game, with the home side feeling they had done enough to take all three points

Lightning made a strong start and looked sharp early on. New signing Muna Eze made an immediate impact on her debut, setting up Collyer for the opening goal in 13 minutes. The visitors responded soon after through Fisher, but Lightning struck back quickly as Collyer netted her second to restore the lead.

Despite controlling large periods of the first half, Lightning were pegged back before the break after a defensive error allowed Feds to equalise, making it 2–2 at half-time.

The second half saw Lightning push for a winner. Rogers’ set pieces and good work from Harris and Mutch created chances, while Abbey-Leigh Stringer impressed in midfield on her first start.

Murphy produced a key save late on to deny Lightning a winning goal, and despite late pressure, the home side couldn’t find a breakthrough.

Manager Baxter said after the game:

“It feels like two points lost. I thought we were the better team, but it’s still good to get points on the board.”

He also praised the new signings, highlighting Eze’s assist and Stringer’s control in midfield.

Lightning take the point, encouraged by the performance and the impact of their new additions. It's a quick turnaround as they face Hull City just two days later away from home in the hope to get some more points on the board.
