How we support clean sport at Loughborough

Loughborough is the UK’s premier university for sport, playing an essential role in promoting sport and healthy lifestyles and nurturing and developing sporting achievement. The University takes pride in being at the heart of sport, developing students as the next generation of elite sportspeople, coaches, support service practitioners, teachers and many other roles.

Loughborough continues to run the most comprehensive sports performance and development programme in the UK and boasts an unrivalled record of sporting excellence. The University ensures its sports teams, coaches, athletes and partner organisations are fully aware of current anti-doping information.

Loughborough is wholly committed to clean sport. We were the first accredited UKAD partner university and have remained so for over a decade. Loughborough takes a proactive stance to promote clean sport, educating our staff and offering tailored education to all performanceprogramme athletes. Loughborough University works to innovatively improve the clean sport landscape working to ensure that a culture of clean sport is promoted on campus and where possible influence this further afield. We are proud to host the UKAD office within Sport Park, part of the Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park. • All sporting participants have the right to compete in doping-free sport (Clean Sport)
• Loughborough University adopts the UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) position that cheating, including doping, in sport is fundamentally contrary to the spirit of sport, undermining the otherwise positive impact of sport on society.

To this end Loughborough University commits to support Clean Sport in the UK in the following ways:

• To support the mission of UKAD and WADA in achieving Clean Sport.
• All athletes are expected to play, train and compete in line with the spirit of sport, including adhering to the anti-doping rules.
• All coaches and athlete support personnel are expected to perform their role in line with the spirit of sport, including adhering to the anti-doping rules and completed appropriate training.
• Loughborough University is committed to supporting the prevention of doping behaviour in the UK in collaboration with other sporting bodies.
• The distribution, promotion, or selling of any supplement or nutrition products within our sports facilities is strictly prohibited. Carefully selected partners who demonstrate appropriate clean sport due diligence may be granted permission by the Loughborough Sport Nutrition service lead and anti-doping lead by joint agreement.
• Staff will not condone, assist or in any way support the use of prohibited substances and methods within any aspect of their work unless permitted by a Therapeutic Use Exemption
• All Loughborough Sport staff will be expected to contact UKAD should they suspect any member of our sporting community has committed or is actively considering committing at Anti-doping rule violation (ADRV). This contact can be made in confidence through the UKAD Protect Your Sport reporting channels.

The University will diligently uphold any sanctions placed upon an athlete or athlete support personnel by UKAD or other associated body in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code.
