Loughborough Lightning

Loughborough is home to Loughborough Lightning, who play in the Allianz Premiership Women’s Rugby competition, the top-level of league rugby in England.

Boasting several internationals such as England’s Emily Scarratt, Sadia Kabeya and Helena Rowland, as well as Scotland’s Rachel Malcolm, Helen Nelson, and Emma Wassell, Lightning brings a wealth of talent and excitement to campus as the team goes head-to-head with the country's top female athletes each week.

A number of our Lightning players successfully balance their studies and training through an extensive support package including lifestyle support and sport scholarships.

Performance

Our performance team compete in the Allianz Premier 15s, the top tier of Women’s rugby.  The rugby programme benefits from formal partnerships with England 7s, and the RFU, which allows us to deliver a High Performance programme to support aspiring and current internationals.

Athletic Union Club

We have an empowering culture where you take responsibility for your own performance and are encouraged to develop your leadership skills as far as you can. We have two student teams that compete in the two highest BUCS leagues. Our 1st team play in the National League, the top tier of University rugby whilst our 2nd Team competes in Premier North. We have also introduced a third team, who compete in Midland's Tier 2.
