About the Club

Here, you’ll find lots of information about Loughborough Rugby, including our history, how to support us, fixture and result details, plus our latest news and events.

Founded in 1919, Loughborough Rugby continues to offer Loughborough University students the opportunity to play the great game of rugby, whether they aspire to play professionally or are new to the game. With our move into the National Leagues, non-students can now play for us too.

We are very much one club, with a total of 10 teams across the men’s and women’s games. Our performance teams compete in National 2 West, BUCS Super Rugby and the Allianz PWR, while our remaining 7 student teams compete at different levels in the BUCS leagues. One of our key focuses continues to be player development, so every player in the club is essential to us both when currently playing for Loughborough and moving on in their rugby career.

At the highest level, both the Men and the Women have produced over 100 international players, including British & Irish Lions, and there are currently 18 rugby players in the Loughborough Sport Hall of Fame. But as player development has been our abiding focus, hundreds of players have left Loughborough and made a major contribution to the playing performance of their rugby clubs at all game levels.

In addition to playing rugby, Loughborough Rugby players and graduates have had a major input to the game of rugby through their teaching and coaching in schools, their coaching in clubs and youth schemes, in officiating, management and sports science. This contribution has ranged from working at the highest level of the game, through to significantly improving the rugby experience at grass roots level.

The fact that the club and all its facilities are situated on the University campus means that players benefit from the range of university resources. The environment also enables Loughborough Rugby players to interact with athletes from many other sports, of which a number perform at the top level, sharing ideas about training, preparation, and performance in a natural and supportive environment.

All of this has developed over many years which has given Loughborough Rugby its very successful “present-day” and a rich history of which we are very proud.
