What is hall sport?
Hall Sport is run by passionate student volunteers (the IMS Exec) who team up with Hall Sport Secretaries to coordinate leagues, teams, officials, and players, making sure every student has an unforgettable sports experience.
With over 90 league fixtures every week and regular one-day events (ODEs) and weekend showcases, there’s always something happening. From Water Polo and Dodgeball to Boccia and Frisbee, there’s a sport for everyone!
Every hall of residence fields teams in each league and one-day event, earning points based on the sport’s grading and their finishing position. It’s all about teamwork, competition, and hall pride and legacy.
The excitement peaks in May with our All Stars event, where IMS teams go head-to-head with Loughborough’s AU teams in a thrilling end-of-year showdown.
It’s a great way to get involved in sport, make memories, and be part of the fantastic hall community we have at Loughborough University.
Who is hall sport for?
Hall Sport is perfect for students who love to compete but want a flexible commitment. It’s a great way to enjoy sports without the intensity, cost, or travel of regular training. Plus, if you’re aiming to join an AU Team, playing in IMS can help you get noticed.
Anyone can take part, hall resident or not! The only exception is if you’re already a member of a University AU team in a particular sport; for example, AU Football players cannot compete in IMS Football.
Our leagues are ideal for those who thrive on competition, while our One Day Events (ODEs) are perfect for trying out fun and unique sports. These events focus on enjoyment and celebrating the thrill of trying something new.
How to get involved
To join IMS leagues, speak to your hall’s Sport Secretary about trials and tasters, which take place during Fresher’s Week at the start of the academic year. Each hall has four Sport Secretaries who organise teams for IMS, making it easy to find the right fit.
Hall Sport is extremely popular, so spots fill up fast - act quickly at the start of term to secure your place. The best way to contact Sport Secs is usually via social media.
