Student focus group - discuss changes to local councils (£60 voucher on offer)

As part of the Government’s invitation to explore new governance models, the district and borough councils in Leicestershire, including Charnwood and Rutland County Council submitted an interim proposal on 21 March 2025, recommending the creation of two new unitary authorities (alongside Leicester City):

  • North Leicestershire and Rutland
  • South Leicestershire
  • Leicester City

The Council refers to this as the North, City, South proposal

The district and borough councils across Leicestershire, along with Rutland County Council, have commissioned Opinion Research Services (ORS), an independent social research organisation to carry out public and stakeholder engagement on the North, City, South proposal, as part of the Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) final submission planned for November 2025.

ORS are looking to undertake an online focus group of 10 people (aged 16-24) from the districts, boroughs and Rutland County Council area to discuss possible changes to the way councils are organised across Leicestershire and Rutland. The session is scheduled for Monday 30 June at 6pm–7:45pm and will involve a mix of representatives from organisations like Youth Councils, and university and college students. As a thank-you for their time, participants will receive a £60 voucher.

How to take part:

Those who are interested can complete Leicestershire & Rutland Local Government Reorganisation - Workshop Registration before 12pm, 23 June. ORS will contact individuals to confirm attendance and provide joining instructions after the registration deadline.
