Mitigating Circumstances

Mitigating Circumstances (MC) are circumstances outside of your control that may negatively impact your academic performance in your assessments.

The University will always look to provide additional support for your circumstances to prevent any impact on your academic performance. However, if your assessments have been negatively impacted by circumstances outside of your control, it might be appropriate to submit a Mitigating Circumstances claim (in accordance with Regulation XVII).

These circumstances may include but are not limited to:

  • Short-term illness or injury (physical or mental health)
  • Long-term health condition or disability (physical or mental health)
  • Bereavement
  • Crime or hate incident (including racism, homophobia and domestic or sexual violence)
