Take part in creative activities to mark LGBT+ History Month
LU Arts is hosting two events in collaboration with Loughborough LGBT+ Association as part of the activities on campus for LGBT+ History Month.
The first is a Happy Mondays workshop, run by artist Daniel Fountain, where students can decorate a lampshade using collages, fabrics, fringing and transfers. The materials used to decorate the lampshades will include images related to LGBT+ history and Loughborough’s queer community; all materials will be provided.
The session is on 3 February, 7pm-9pm in Cogs, located in the Students’ Union. A £3 refundable deposit is required to secure your place and this will not be refunded if you do not attend the session. The lampshades will be used as part of the second event, a cocktail evening, although students will be able to take them home after this.
On 28 February, LU Arts and the LGBT+ Association invite you to join them for ‘Let’s Gather To Remember Everything We Forget’.
Artist Ian Giles has collaborated with students and staff to create a specially designed cocktail menu and lounge to celebrate our Loughborough LGBT+ community – with an exhibition you can drink.
Photographs drawn from the University archives celebrating LGBT+ life at Loughborough will be displayed within this immersive environment for one night only. This will include the customised lampshades created at the Happy Mondays workshop on 3 February.
Ian has worked with students and staff on this project, researching Loughborough’s LGBT+ history and how it is represented within the University archive, as well as drawing on photographs and memories shared by Loughborough alumni.
Ian is still keen to hear from anyone who has photographs which may be relevant to this event; please get in touch by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
This special event will run from 6.30pm-8.30pm in Cogs and is free to attend (including drinks); space is limited and you can book your place online in advance.
