Loughborough based charity, Equality Action is hosting a public lecture focused on the school ethos that sparked protests and raised questions about relationship and sex education in British schools.

On 17 February, 6.45pm-8.30pm in U020 Brockington, Andrew Moffat, MBE who is the assistant head teacher at Parkfield Community School, Birmingham will talk about the whole school ethos – ‘No Outsiders’.

This ethos teaches children from four years old that everyone is different, but all are welcome, no one is an outsider. It is based on the Equality Act 2010 and uses picture books as a stimulus to explore diversity.

In 2017 Andrew was awarded an MBE for services to Equality and Diversity in Education. In 2019, protests emerged at Andrew’s school against the inclusion of LGBT+ equality in the curriculum. As these protests spread, No Outsiders gained more attention in the media.

This lecture will look at the ethos as a whole and the protests it sparked.

Varsha Parmar, Executive Officer at Equality Action said: “We are delighted to have Andrew attend this lecture as our guest speaker.

“This echoes our mission statement of promoting equality and diversity, dignity and respect through inclusion, which we have been championing in Charnwood for over 50 years.  We know his expertise and insight will be hugely valuable to everyone who attends.

This is a free event but booking is required through Eventbrite. Event details are available here.
