REF Code of Practice consultation

In November 2020 the University will submit its research for national assessment via the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021.

As part of this process, all universities are required to develop a Code of Practice to guide their REF submission and ensure that all policies and processes are transparent, consistent and inclusive.

Loughborough’s Code of Practice has been drafted by a specially convened Working Group, chaired by the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Professor Steve Rothberg, and comprising academic staff, Human Resources, Loughborough UCU, the Planning Team and the Research Office.

As required by Research England, the Code of Practice covers three important areas:

  • Identifying staff with significant responsibility for research
  • Determining research independence
  • Selecting research outputs

Staff must have the opportunity to see and comment on the Code of Practice, which is available at https://www.lboro.ac.uk/research/support/research-excellence-framework/. The consultation is open until 1 May 2019. Feedback should be emailed to the Research Policy Team at researchpolicy@lboro.ac.uk
