Loughborough-linked women cricketers get international call up

Cricket’s England Women have named their squads for the upcoming tours of India and Sri Lanka, which feature 12 Loughborough University linked players.

The tour kicks off later this month when England Women will travel to India for three one-day internationals and three Twenty20 internationals, before heading to Sri Lanka.

Featuring in the squad are current students Sophia Dunkley and Linsey Smith, along with 10 Loughborough alumna: Tammy Beaumont, Katherine Brunt, Georgia Elwiss, Amy Jones, Laura Marsh, Natalie Sciver, Anya Shrubsole, Fran Wilson, Lauren Winfield and Alex Hartley.

Rob Taylor, the University’s Head Women’s Cricket Coach said: “It is great to see so many Loughborough-linked players selected for the England squad. We are incredibly proud of what they have achieved and wish them the best of luck for the tour.”

The campus is also home to Loughborough Lightning Cricket, the number one Women’s T20 side in the East Midlands.
