Transgender Day of Remembrance Service 2025

Students and Staff are welcome to join this year's Trans Day of Remembrance Service hosted by the University Chaplaincy.
Transgender Day of Remembrance began in 1999 as a result of increasing anti-transgender violence and discrimination across the world. The first memorial event was held to remember and honour Rita Hester, who was murdered on November 28th, 1998 in Boston, USA.
This Service of Remembrance, in collaboration with LGBT+ Staff Network and LSU LGBT+ Student Association, is to honour those who have died from anti-trans violence and those who have experienced it. During the service, we will remember those who have lost their lives during the last year by lighting candles. We will also look forward in hope, assured of the glory and goodness of trans people.
Throughout the service, there will be times of silence and periods with music playing. This is your space to use as you find most helpful.
The chapel will remain open all day for you to come and light a candle and reflect privately.
Refreshments will be provided after the service.
If you would like to join the service online, please complete the booking form to be sent the Microsoft Teams joining link and information.
