Menstrual Health in Female Athletes - From Mechanisms to Recovery
Two of the world's leading researchers in female athlete health, Professor Nancy Williams and Professor Mary Jane De Souza (Penn State University, USA), will present complementary perspectives on the mechanisms, consequences and recovery of exercise-associated menstrual dysfunction.
Drawing on more than three decades of pioneering research, Dr Williams will examine how energy deficiency and exercise training contribute to disrupted reproductive function and lead to menstrual dysfunction, while Dr De Souza will discuss the evidence for restoring menstrual function and bone health through targeted nutritional and clinical interventions in athletes with the Female Athlete Triad.
Together, these presentations will provide a comprehensive overview of the latest science underpinning menstrual health in sport and the translation of this evidence into clinical practice, followed by an extended audience discussion.
This talk will place in the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine (NCSEM) building room 1.39. If you would prefer to join online you can do so via Teams.
