IAS Summit: Examining and Understanding Our Role in Shaping Outcomes

Graphic of urban planning map

Part of a week of activities for the IAS Research Summit - Rethinking Urban Inequalities.

This session turns the critique inward. In small groups, participants examine where normative values enter their own modelling practice (in the data chosen, the proxies used, the optimisation criteria set, and the decisions those models are ultimately meant to inform). The afternoon builds toward a reflexive dialogue in which each group produces "value cards" naming the assumptions embedded in their work, developed collaboratively with fellows and Loughborough colleagues, with an independent artist-researcher support helping translate knowledge into visual and creative form. These value cards will contribute to the design guide that the summit will produce as one of its outputs.

Featuring IAS Visiting Fellow:

Associate Professor Jessica Espey, University of Southampton
