Co-creating Inclusive Learning – A student and staff partnership celebration
This event will be delivered jointly by Loughborough Students’ Union (LSU) and University colleagues to celebrate student–staff collaboration in learning, share best practice, and help build the skills and structures that support more co-created work across Loughborough.
The event will share outputs and learning from a Collaborative Enhancement Project supported and funded by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education Membership, led by LSU and Loughborough University, with partner universities across the UK.
The programme begins with lunch, networking and welcome remarks, followed by a standout keynote that brings equity-focused curriculum design to life through a student–staff co-created module reaching around 300 first-year Life Sciences students each year. Dr Declan Doyle (University of Southampton, School of Biological Sciences) and members of the student co-creator team share how 'BIOL1030 How to Think Like a Scientist' was redesigned to embed equity at scale by moving away from assessment based on multiple-choice questions and towards authentic scientific communication, including science reports, small-group personal academic tutor-led support and rich, confidence-building feedback.
The afternoon also includes an interactive workshop exploring the benefits and challenges of collaborative working, alongside short presentations showcasing impactful staff–student initiatives that broaden participation and amplify diverse voices, including topics such as equity in proofreading and collaborative observation guides.
The event concludes with a forward-looking session focused on practical next steps for sustaining and extending this work across the University, followed by an informal drinks reception and networking.
