Resistance trained and untrained participants needed for research investigating

This study aims to explore how resistance training impacts the brain’s ability to communicate with muscles. The objective of this study is to compare the central nervous system properties of the upper and lower body of individuals who have completed long-term resistance training with a group of recreationally active people

Dear Loughborough Student/Staff Member,

I’d like to kindly invite you to take part in an exciting Research Study we are currently conducting (Study Reference Number: 21355)

We require participants to compare differences in central nervous system characteristics of individuals with and without prior upper and lower body resistance training experience.

Study participation - what's involved

The total time commitment for participants is estimated to be approximately 4 hours for participants, split across the following tasks:

  1. Familiarisation: ~1 h
  2. Test session visit 1 (lower body): ~1.5 h
  3. Test session visit 2 (upper body): ~1.5 h

Eligibility criteria:

  • Men and women
  • Between 18-40 years of age
  • Healthy (with no injury or any underlying disease)
  • Resistance-trained group: >2 years of regular resistance training experience
  • Recreationally active group: Active but no systematic training of any kind
  • No history of epilepsy or seizure
  • Not pregnant
  • Not taking any medication
  • Non-smoker
  • BMI < 30kg/m2

If you are interested in taking part, please contact the lead investigator Danyang Wei (Doctoral Researcher) via email (D.Wei@lboro.ac.uk).
