Call for participants: sedentary behaviour and inflammation levels

We are looking for healthy 18 to 50-year-olds to participate in our study, investigating whether sedentary behaviour, i.e. sitting and lying down, and physical activity are linked with levels of inflammation.

We are looking for:

  • Healthy males and females – those taking hormonal contraception are welcome to participate
  • People aged 18-50 years
  • Non-smokers/vapers
  • Those with no underlying chronic health conditions
  • Individuals willing to wear activity monitors for around a week

Participation will involve:

  • 2 visits to the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine (NCSEM) with a total time commitment under 2 hours
  • Wearing 2 activity monitors for 8 days whilst completing your normal activities
  • Measurements of body composition (eg body fat %) and completion of questionnaires
  • A blood sample

Why should I participate?

  • You will be helping us to determine whether sedentary behaviour and physical activity are linked to inflammation, which could have implications for public health guidance for the prevention of cardiovascular disease. You will also receive details of your body composition and blood pressure.
