Advice and support for students and doctoral researchers affected by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East

This article contains important information if you’ve been affected by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

We recognise that this situation may be worrying for you or your family, and that it may affect plans you had for the upcoming Easter vacation.

While the situation continues to evolve and may change quickly, we wanted to ensure you have access to all the support available during the holidays.

Spring Staycation vacation programme

If you will be remaining in Loughborough during the Easter break, the University will be running our Spring Staycation programme with a range of activities, trips and opportunities to connect with other students. These events are open to all students staying in Loughborough over the vacation and are designed to help you stay active and meet others during the break.

During the vacation period, the International Student Experience team will be available during office hours, Monday to Friday, and can be contacted at ise@lboro.ac.uk or by visiting the Bridgeman Building Reception. Please note that the team will not be available during the University closure period from 3–7 April.

Staying on campus and campus facilities

Students living in halls on campus over the vacation period will be able to continue to do so at no extra cost. Students living in catered halls will be able to access meals, except during the closure period. You should have received a separate email from Student Accommodation with more information.

Travel during the vacation

If you are considering travel during the vacation, or if travel options open up before Easter, we encourage you to keep up to date with UK Government travel guidance and to carefully consider your plans. If travel disruption were to occur, it could affect your ability to return in time for teaching and assessments after the Easter break.

Students studying in the UK on a study visa who are unable to return to the UK may need to consider visa requirements relating to time spent outside the UK and may need to apply for a leave of absence from the University if the period abroad is extended. You can seek advice on University processes and immigration from the Student Advice and Support Service.

Support for students

Student Services (Email: studentwellbeing@lboro.ac.uk , Tel: 01509 222765) offers a range of support, including mental health and wellbeing support and advice specifically for international students. One-to-one support with an advisor is also available. If you would like to access this support, please complete the online referral form.

If you feel your studies are being affected, you can contact your Academic School and/or Personal Tutor so that we can provide the right support. If you wish, you can also submit an individual Mitigating Circumstances claim to explain how you have been impacted by recent events. More information on this can be found in the Student Handbook.

The University Chaplaincy offers a space for quiet reflection for students and staff. Chaplains offer a non-judgemental listening service to all, irrespective of religious or spiritual beliefs. No appointment is necessary. Email chaplaincy@lboro.ac.uk or call 01509 223741 to arrange to speak with a chaplain.

If you feel you would benefit from support during this time, please do reach out to the services listed above.
