Important information for staff, students and doctoral researchers in planning travel to, or transiting the Middle East region

This article contains important information if you are in the Middle East or planning to travel to or through the region. The Foreign Office has updated its advice for the region following the growing conflict there.

Travel to many countries is now advised against, including non-essential travel to or through the UAE (including Dubai). Please check the updated guidance before any travel. British nationals in Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Palestine, Qatar and the UAE (including Dubai) are specifically asked to register with the Foreign Office.

If you are in the region and currently affected, you should read and follow statements by the Foreign Office on their website. For a number of regions this includes advice to ‘shelter in place’ due to the level of risk. If you are a national of a country other than the UK, you should check and act on the relevant guidance from the government of your own country.

Staff in one of the territories above should make their line manager or School Head of Operations aware.

Students and doctoral researchers in one of the territories above should let their School know and email the University (Academic Registry) at the following address: exchanges@mailbox.lboro.ac.uk

You are advised not to travel to or through the Middle East unless it is essential, due to escalating tensions and military activity.

If you were planning on travelling for University business, you are unlikely to be covered by the University’s insurance and must not travel without seeking further guidance from your Service or School and the University’s insurance team

If the travel was personal, you should still follow the Foreign Office’s advice and check your personal insurance, which may no longer cover your travel.

Anyone already in the Middle East should follow the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office advice and register their presence to receive direct updates in case evacuation flights are required.

We recognise that the unfolding events are distressing for many in our community, and some colleagues and students may be personally affected. We know many colleagues and students are from or have family in the region, our thoughts are with those affected by the conflict.
