We recognise that changes to parking charges can affect colleagues differently, particularly at a time when many people continue to experience increases in their own day-to-day living costs. As a university, we have been carefully reviewing a range of measures to help manage rising operational costs while continuing to protect and invest in the services and infrastructure that support our community. Staff Parking Charges
As colleagues are aware, the University has been considering a number of financial measures to help address increasing costs across the institution. Staff parking tariffs have remained unchanged since the current parking system was introduced in 2023, despite significant increases in the costs associated with operating, maintaining, and improving campus parking facilities and related infrastructure.
Following a detailed review, updated staff parking charges will be introduced from 1 September 2026.
The revised charges are:
• Grades 1–3: 25p per day, capped at 3 chargeable days per week (maximum 75p per week).
• Grades 4–5: No change to current charges. This remains in place as part of the University's approach to addressing pay compression associated with the Real Living Wage.
• Grades 6–7: Increase of 25p per day, capped at 3 chargeable days per week.
• Grade 8 and above: Increase of 35p per day, capped at 3 chargeable days per week.
While we appreciate that any increase in costs is unwelcome, the revised tariffs have been designed to keep charges as low as possible while ensuring that parking income continues to be a revenue stream and make a fair contribution towards the ongoing costs of maintaining the University's parking provision. The existing cap on chargeable days will remain in place to help limit the overall financial impact on colleagues who regularly travel to campus.

To support the introduction of charges for colleagues in Grades 1–3, we will undertake a soft launch ahead of the implementation date. This will provide an opportunity for affected colleagues to check that their vehicle details are correctly registered and that a valid bank card has been assigned, ensuring parking transactions can be processed smoothly once the changes take effect.

Additional Parking-Related Changes
As part of the wider package of measures being introduced:
• The visitor evening and weekend parking tariff will increase to £2 per visit from early August.
• Student parking permits will increase to £40 per month from 1 September 2026.
General Updates
• Parking at the Creative Arts estate remains restricted to permit holders only, Monday to Friday between 6am and 6pm. Visitors should use the main campus parking facilities.
• Short-stay parking remains in operation at the Swimming Pool car park, allowing a maximum stay of 2 hours. Charge Notices will be issued for stays exceeding this limit, including for staff vehicles.
• The temporary car parks on the east side of campus have now been repurposed for event parking only and may be used by prior agreement. Full details are available via the event parking guidelines.
• ANPR data continues to show that sufficient parking capacity is available across campus on a daily basis, particularly within Car Park 1 [Multi-Storey] and Holywell. Colleagues are encouraged to make use of these car parks where possible.
We fully appreciate that changes of this nature may raise questions and concerns, and we would like to thank colleagues for their understanding and continued cooperation.
