Update on parking

We're sharing an update on campus parking for all staff, including short stay parking changes and a new process for VIP parking.

Short stay parking changes

From Monday 13 April, a new exit barrier will be installed on the LSU side of the swimming pool car park. This forms part of the planned reconfiguration of the area to support allday parking for colleagues. The new barrier will operate as exitonly, meaning that all vehicles must enter the car park via the main route past the security gatehouse and around the rear of the Students’ Union building – as illustrated above.

The swimming pool side of the car park will continue to operate as a shortstay area, with a maximum stay of two hours.

Central Accommodation Project - Contractor Parking

An unused area of the Holywell Car Park has been cordoned off to provide dedicated parking for contractors working on the Central Accommodation Project (shown below).

This measure is necessary to help maintain parking availability across the East and Central parts of campus during the construction period. Given that this area is currently unused, ample parking capacity remains available in the Holywell Car Park.

Student Parking

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras are now in operation at Car Park 1 (Multi-Storey), Car Park 7 and Holywell Car Park to help manage student parking on campus.

Student permit holders are only able to park in these car parks, and parking anywhere else on campus will result in a Parking Charge being issued. It is possible for students who do not have approved permits to park as visitors, and they will pay up to £7 a day to do this.

Burleigh Court Parking

We'd like to remind colleagues that the car park at Burleigh Court is not a staff car park and is for the use of guests and visitors to Burleigh Court. The car park is managed by ANPR and staff who park without the correct permissions are at risk of receiving a Parking Charge. Alternative parking is available nearby in Holywell, Car Park 3 (Library) or Car Park 1 (Multi-Storey).

VIP Parking Exemptions

The process for VIP parking exemptions has changed and requests should be made via this Microsoft form. Applications should be submitted no less than 24 hours prior to exemption date to ensure adequate processing time.

Please visit our visitor parking webpage for further information, including eligibility criteria.

Parking Capacity

Data continues to show that there is sufficient parking capacity available every day on the west side of campus, particularly in Car Park 1 and Holywell. Staff are encouraged to use these car parks, as Parking Charges will be issued to vehicles parked outside marked bays.

Please note that the temporary car parks will remain closed until further notice. In the meantime, the campus shuttle bus and Sprint services continue to operate and offer free travel around campus.
