Now available: New reading list system

The University’s new reading list system is now available for staff and students.

This system replaces the previous system and provides easy access to the reading required for your modules in an attractive interface. New features include improved navigation, the ability to change referencing styles and set reading intentions. Feedback about the system from staff and students during testing has been very positive.

Library and IT Services staff have migrated the content of current reading lists across from the old system. You can access your new-look lists either by searching the system itself or via the links which are gradually being added to Learn modules. The links will usually be in the ‘Module Information’ section.

Please note that most reading lists are now only open to Loughborough University staff and students so you will need to be logged in to the VPN to view them when you are off-campus, just like other University systems.

Whilst it is very intuitive, videos for students on how to access and get the most from the new system are available on the Help for Students webpage and you can also get support via library@lboro.ac.uk, the Library enquiry desks and your Academic Librarian.

Support for staff is available via videos and advice on the Help for Staff webpage. Content includes instructions on how to add the link to the reading list from Learn, how to check and edit lists, as well as best practice for developing a reading list. Academic Librarians are also offering one-to-one consultations and webinars.

The links to the new system in Learn need to be added by module leads or academic colleagues who teach on the module; unfortunately, this process cannot be automated. The action is very quick and advice for staff on how to do this is available via a TEL Guide, as well as on the Help for Staff webpage. If staff have any questions about this process or would like any support, please contact your Academic Librarian or book a one-to-one consultation.

Whilst we hope both students and staff will start using the new system immediately, access to a ‘frozen’ version of content on the old system will remain available via the reading list block in Learn until it rolls over in July and then in the Learn 23 archive until the end of the September Special Assessment Period.  This is to allow time for the individual links to be added. Please note any changes made to the reading list in the new system will not be reflected on the 'frozen' version.

Please start to explore your new reading list system and if you have any questions or feedback, please contact the Library via your Academic Librarian or library@lboro.ac.uk.
