The Repair Café is free and open to all, inviting students, staff, and the local community to bring along broken goods, in the hope that they can be repaired.
A team of volunteers, who each have their own area of expertise, will be there to help mend items as well as teach visitors the necessary skills to make their own repairs in the future.
This event is also an opportunity for the University community to have a coffee, chat and share skills and knowledge whilst contributing to a more eco-conscious campus environment.
The following items can be brought to the Repair Café:
- Bicycles
- Clothing and textiles
- Small electricals
- Plants
- Items in need of sharpening
- Other small items which may need gluing or screwing
If you have an item you would like to bring to the Repair Café, please fill in the online form.
Bike checks and repairs will be carried out by the team from Bike Buddies, who will be visiting for the afternoon.
Environmental charity Hubbub will also be at the Repair Café running a phone charm making workshop and providing tips on taking care of your phone and other electronic devices.
The aim of the Repair Café is to promote a circular economy on campus where repairing, repurposing, and recycling are the norm instead of buying new.
The Repair Café supports the waste hierarchy, which will help drive the University’s strategic theme of limiting environmental impact and climate change and achieving Net Zero.
The project also supports the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
