Play your part in the Student Green League

The Green League is a sustainability competition between the 17 halls of residence (including Unite and UPP halls) to determine which hall is the most sustainable.

The competition is run by the Sustainability Team in conjunction with support from the Student’s Union and the funding partners Unite and UPP.

By participating and supporting the League, you give your hall a chance to win money for a sustainable project or item for your hall and it contributes to your Hall of the Year standing. It also gives you an opportunity to support the environment you live in and contribute to your hall community.

Each hall is judged and ranked on how well they complete actions within the Carbon Action Planner. Some examples include:

  • Reducing energy usage
  • Recycling correctly
  • Reducing waste
  • Encouraging sustainable travel choices
  • Promoting sustainability
  • Engaging with events and opportunities related to sustainability

Your Hall Campus and Sustainability (CAS) rep will use the Carbon Action Planner to record the progress of your hall.  You can also apply to become a student ambassador or attend the drop-in sessions run by the Sustainability Team to learn more.

At the end of the academic year, each hall will present what they would do if they were to win the prize money, with the only requirement being that it must be sustainable. The first, second and third place halls will receive money toward their project or item:

  • £250 for first place (per term)
  • £175 for second place (per term)
  • £150 for third place (per term)

This means you have a chance to win up to £750 per year for your hall.
